Napoleon's great army

The Hougoumont Farm is one of three (along with La Haie-Sainte and La Papelotte Farm) which was an advanced position and a stopper protecting the right flank of the Allied lines. Napoleon launched the action against it at around 11:30 am on 18th .

What was only intended as a diversionary tactic was to become one of the deadliest moments of the battle. There was ferocious fighting there until 7 o’clock pm. The orchard and garden changed hands seven times while the buildings remained under the control of the 1,500 soldiers of the coalition.
