> Preserving the richness of our heritage

Preserving the richness of our heritage

Our desire is to raise the awareness of children and parents as to the need to preserve and promote our architectural, natural and artistic heritage – historical monuments, castles, industrial heritage, parks and gardens, prehistoric sites, paintings and furniture etc.

Around 80% of our heritage has already been destroyed by the merciless waves of history. The preservation of historical monuments as listed buildings – aspects of our heritage with a “special interest for history or art history” – has only been enshrined in law in France since 1913. UNESCO has been involved in this protection on an international scale since the signature of the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 1972.

Fondation Culturespaces supports:

- The organisation of visits to restoration projects by young people’s associations.

- Visits for children to local heritage site in order to raise awareness of their vulnerability.

- Funding of projects to restore heritage items and to preserve and promote monuments, with a sustainable development approach.

- Training programmes in the preservation, promotion and transmission of cultural heritage, in partnership with schools and universities.

“Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today,

and what we pass on to future generations.”

UNESCO Convention, 1972
